On Election Day, November 5, Town of Purcellville residents can vote for a total of FIVE candidates for Town Council, in three separate races - one candidate for Mayor, one candidate running in a  special election to fill the remainder of a former council member's term, and three candidates to fill expiring terms. As your small-town team, dedicated to fiscal responsibility and managed growth, we ask you to vote for ALL 5 of us, as follows:

MAYOR - CHRISTOPHER M. BERTAUT

SPECIAL ELECTION - JONATHAN D. "JON" ARNBURG

GENERAL ELECTION - CARL B. "BEN" NETT, BRIAN C. GREEN, and SUSAN F. KHALIL

     Christopher M. Bertaut - Mayor

I grew up in Pennsylvania, suburban Detroit, and Washington, D.C. and attended public schools. While growing up, my mother gave me a lot of valuable advice. Some of her best advice was to care about others, truthfully state your intentions, and follow through with your promises. My wife and I chose to live in the town of Purcellville to raise our children because we loved the small-town feel with friendly neighbors, youth sports, and civic activities for all ages. I am now a widower and the proud parent to my two sons, both graduates of Loudoun Valley High School. We have lived in Hirst Farm for almost 20 years. I served for several years as an adult leader for both my sons in the Boy Scouts, and I also serve on my HOA Board.

I have a Master of Arts degree in Geography and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I have been employed locally in the telecommunications and IT industries.  My employers include some of the top names in telecommunications, IT, and data center services. I have also served as a church treasurer, and on the Planning Commission.

I was elected to Town Council in 2020 along with former Mayor Kwasi Fraser, and have made it my mission to reduce costs for the residents and businesses of Purcellville and drive efficiency in our government services. While on Town Council, I helped hold the line on water rate increases by planting a forest on the Town's Aberdeen property - netting nearly one million dollars which goes to reducing utility rates. The current Town Council majority has opted to raise rates while refusing  to explore similar innovative solutions or address rising maintenance and operations costs. I will continue to fight to protect the town we all love and think outside the box. This is my pledge to you, and I humbly ask for your vote.

Jonathan D. "Jon" Arnburg - Town Council (Special Election)

My wife, Cassandra, and I are the proud parents of four children and have called Purcellville home since 2021. We relocated from Illinois following a job offer from Inova Health System, where I am currently employed as the System Senior Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management. Channeling over 15 years of experience, I oversee strategic planning, policy development, and program implementation to ensure the safety and security of Inova’s personnel, facilities, and resources. Prior to joining Inova Health System, I held positions at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago as the Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management, at FEMA as a Strategic Planning Specialist, and  in the Borough of Englishtown, New Jersey, as the Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator and Firefighter.

Since arriving in Purcellville, my family and I have woven ourselves into the fabric of our community and its small-town traditions. I’m a devoted family man and passionate community volunteer, with a deep commitment to preserving the town's character for future generations. My wife and I have devoted countless hours to our children’s schools, the Locust Grove neighborhood HOA, and local youth sports. My involvement in youth sports underscores my dedication to fostering teamwork, discipline, and healthy lifestyles among young people. Through these efforts, I have built strong relationships with families and gained a firsthand understanding of the community's needs and aspirations.

As a candidate for town council, I am focused on promoting slow, responsible growth, always ensuring the residents' best interests are at heart. I believe that maintaining the town's unique character is essential to preserving its charm and ensuring a high quality of life for all residents. My approach emphasizes careful consideration of growth opportunities, balancing progress with the need to protect the community's heritage and values.

I am driven by a desire to create a bright future for my children and all the town's youth. My dedication to service, combined with my strategic mindset and community-oriented values, makes me an ideal candidate to represent and lead the town toward a prosperous, well-balanced future that values family, community, and the preservation of the town's unique character for generations to come. I ask for your vote, and I urge you to likewise vote for our full slate of outstanding candidates.

Carl B. "Ben" Nett - Town Council

My wife and I moved to Purcellville because we wanted to raise our children in a small town, away from the violence and vulgarity of the big city.  Now on a second career with the Purcellville Police Department, I bring with me the experience of more than 20 years as TS//SCI cleared professional. In addition to serving in the Presidential Protective Division of the Secret Service and the National Clandestine Service of the CIA, I spent more than a decade leading one of the most sensitive and politically charges missions of the U.S. Government. I possess substantial leadership and management experience and am committed to reducing our debt, finding solutions to our out-of-control utility costs, returning our police department to 24/7 coverage, and revitalizing our many dilapidated structures. I'm proud to support my fellow slate of candidates and utilize this platform to introduce them to my fellow citizens.

On a personal note, I voted for many of the incumbent members of Town Council - some of whom are running for re-election this November - but they did not keep the promises they made in the last election. Further, they failed to address the Town's most pressing issues, instead choosing to cast blame and engage in misdirection. As the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

It's time for a new slate of professionals to take office and bring a sense of decorum and maturity to Town Hall.  With that, my colleagues and I pledge to keep data centers out of Purcellville, manage growth in keeping with the aesthetics of our town, conduct a cost-benefit analysis before taking any particular course of action, and routinely solicit community input. I ask for your vote on November 5 or during early voting, which begins September 20.

Brian C. Green - Town Council

My wife and I have lived in western Loudoun for 25 years and in the Town of Purcellville (Mayfair Crown) for eight years. We chose Purcellville for its small town feel and quality of life. Purcellville is the perfect place to live and to raise our family, and our two sons have enjoyed the benefits of growing up in this special place.

I began my career in the television industry and transitioned into Telecommunications, Internet Service Providers and currently the Financial Industry. I have experience working in the areas of Engineering, Information Technology, Project Management and Customer Service in supporting and in management roles.

I currently serve on the Town of Purcellville’s Planning Commission where I have been working on the rewrite of the zoning ordinance – getting it in line with the town’s comprehensive plan. Since zoning is paramount to protecting our town, I advocate for our updated zoning ordinance that maintains our town’s character and preserves our way of life and well-being. I have been diligent in standing firm against inappropriate development pressure to allow uses which our citizens do not want.

Our town’s future should be determined by its citizens – not by outside developer interests who want to extend our borders and also allow uses in our town that will threaten our town’s charm. I am against annexations which will extend our borders and allow high density and out of character uses. This will also increase taxes, lead to higher utility rates, increase traffic and change our small-town dramatically. I ask you to vote for me, Brian C. Green, along with Carl B. "Ben" Nett and Susan F. Khalil in the election for expiring terms and our entire slate.

Susan F. Khalil - Town Council

I was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I am a descendant of Italian immigrants, and have a strong sense of family. I learned the value of hard work and was taught to stand up for my principles and never be compromised. Personal integrity was paramount. There are a lot of things one can lose in life and recover from, but integrity is not one of them.

I have had a successful career in mortgage banking asset management, overseeing multi-million-dollar portfolios of commercial, residential, and multi-family real estate. I currently hold a position in finance for a national non-profit.

I have lived in Virginia since 1986 and I moved to Purcellville in 2000. I chose the Town of Purcellville because I wanted to raise my children in a small town with a wonderful and caring community. My two children, now grown, always look forward to coming back to the Town of Purcellville to visit. It is a place where they can relax, and they eagerly anticipate showing off their hometown to their friends.

I am running for Town Council because I fear we will lose our hometown atmosphere if we allow our town to be infiltrated with aggressive housing and commercial and industrial growth through annexations. My vision is to always be moving towards bringing Purcellville into tomorrow, but doing so without compromising our town’s charm and traditions, and most importantly, without creating any further financial burden for our town residents. The potential financial effect on our residents will always be my first consideration when evaluating existing and new projects.

I am for slow growth and will always put our citizens first, not outside developers. Purcellville has a quieter, slower, and more intimate lifestyle. We do not want to be Leesburg or Ashburn. I am not for extending our borders through annexations which will change the character of our town with more traffic, higher taxes, and higher utility bills. I ask for your vote. Our entire team is united, focused, and dedicated to the best interests of the Town of Purcellville.
